When I'm at my worst, distant from God, struggling to pray, avoiding scripture, tired of God's people, I often go to the Psalms. Maybe it's because they're short. I hope not. There's something about the Psalms that drag me back to the reality of God in my life. Hearing the passionate cries of David for deliverance. His exclamations of the attributes of God. His longings for the redemption of God in his life. All these things resonate with me.
...you have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in your book?
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me...
A beautiful picture from Psalm 56
